She was born in Tokyo in 1932. After studying theater at Waseda University’s Graduate School of Theatre Studies, she enrolled in the theater and literature course at the University of London’s Summer School. In 1955, she joined the Production Department of Nikkatsu Studios. She then transferred to the Scriptwriting Department. In 1964, she made her debut as a screenwriter with the Daiei film Shinobi no Mono: Iga Yashiki (The Ninja: Iga Mansion) , for which she co-wrote the script with Kin’ya Naoi. She wrote screenplays for such films as Irezumi Ichidai (Tattooed Life), Onna no Toba (A Women’s Gamble), and Gontakure (Pretend Authority). She later left Nikkatsu but maintained a screenwriting contract with the company. From 1968, she began working as a freelance scriptwriter for television and film. She expanded into stage production in 1980, and starting in 1990, she headed the theater collective Engeki Kikaku K. She died in March 2020 at the age of 82. Her major film credits include Ah, Nomugi Toge (Nomugi Pass, 1979). Her prominent television credits include Onna no Niwa (Woman’s Garden, 1971, TBS), Kogarashi Monjirō (1972–1973, TBS), and Yume no Ato (After the Dream, 1972, CBC). She also scripted mysteries, such as Inugami no Ichizoku (The Inugami Clan, 1977, MBS) from the Seishi Yokomizo series, as well as Seichō Matsumoto’s Kurokawa no Techō (Black Leather Notebook, 1982, TV Asahi) and Onna (Women, 1978–1979, TBS). She died in 2020 at the age of 88.
