Ishimatsu Yoshihiro

He was born in Fukuoka Prefecture in 1932. He graduated from the University of Tokyo’s Faculty of Letters. Although he initially aspired to be a director, a diagnosis of tubercular scarring following his university graduation forced him to give up on directing; instead, he chose to pursue a career in screenwriting. He joined Daiei as a scriptwriting trainee. He made his screenplay debut in the film Dankongai no Yujō (Friendship in the Bullet-Ridden Street) in 1960, and he signed a screenwriting contract with Daiei in 1962. In 1971, he went freelance after Daiei went bankrupt. He wrote a variety of scripts for television and film. He was also a novelist, and he authored several novels, including Sōshin (Funeral God). His screenwriting credits include Kuro no Shisōsha (Black Test Car), Aru Koroshiya (A Certain Killer), and Sakura no Daimon (Crest of Cherry Blossom). His television scripts include The Guard Man (1965–1971, TBS), Kiri no Kabe (Walls of Fog, 1970, NHK), Hanayaka na Kōya (Spectacular Wilderness, 1974, TBS), Tokusō Saizensen (Special Investigation Frontline, 1977–1987, TV Asahi), Joōbachi (Queen Bee, 1978, MBS), Kyūkei no Kōya (Spherical Wilderness, 1981, NTV), Kakaku Hakai (Price Destruction, 1981, NHK), Paris Iki Saishū-bin (Last Flight to Paris, 1986, TV Asahi), Hagure Keiji Junjōha (The Pure-Minded Detective, 1988–2009, TV Asahi), and Onna Kenji Kasumi Yuko (Female Prosecutor Yuko Kasumi, 1985–1993, NTV). He died in 2025 at the age of 93.
