Hasegawa Kimiyuki

- He was born in Tokyo in 1925. He graduated from Chiba University’s School of Medicine. In 1950, he joined the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, where he was assigned to Forensic Medicine in the Criminal Investigation Bureau’s Identification Section to perform autopsies. Meanwhile, the film adaptation of a work he wrote as a student prompted him to launch a parallel career as a screenwriter. After working in the Public Relations Division of the Administration Bureau, he retired from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department in 1957 and devoted himself to writing scripts for film and television. His film works include the Keishichō Monogatari (Metropolitan Police Story) series and many others. Later, he also wrote art criticism. He produced the launch of the quarterly art magazine Hanga Geijutsu. He died in June 2003 at the age of 77. His major television credits include Shichō Shisu (The Mayor Dies, 1959, NTV), Shichinin no Keiji (The Seven Detectives, 1961–1969, TBS), Playgirl (1969–1976, Tokyo Channel 12 [now TV Tokyo]), Mitsuyaku: Gaimu-shō Kimitsu Rōei Jiken (Secret Agreement: The Leak of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Confidential Information, 1978, TV Asahi), Jikō (Statute of Limitations, 1979, TV Asahi), Onna no Kessan: Shiga Ginkō 9-oku-en Ōryō Jiken (Woman’s Accounting: The Shiga Bank 900 Million Yen Embezzlement Case, 1981, TV Asahi), Tōki ni Me Arite (Eyes in the Distance, 1982, TBS), and Kōsō no Shikaku (The Blind Spot in the High-Rise Building, 1983, TV Asahi). He died in 2003 at the age of 78.
