- He was born in Ehime Prefecture in 1926. After attending the former Matsuyama High School, he entered Osaka Imperial University’s (now Osaka University) School of Science. After teaching for a year, following his graduation, he moved to Tokyo and drifted through a variety of jobs, ranging from Latin-script typing and translation to the manufacture and sale of audio equipment. Eventually, he started writing scripts. Following an introduction to the production staff by a friend, he joined the writing team for the TBS series Shichinin no Keiji (The Seven Detectives) in 1962. Following this, he wrote scripts for television and plays. In television, he wrote many scripts for the TBS drama series Toshiba Nichiyō Gekijō (Toshiba Sunday Theater). He won the Grand Prize at the National Arts Festival for Aa! Kono Ai Nakuba (Ah! If I Don’t Have This Love, NTV) in 1980 and the Excellence Award of the same festival for Afureru Ai ni (An Abundance of Love, Yomiuri TV) in 1983. His other notable television credits include Nami no Tō (Tower of Waves, 1973, NHK), Wakare no Gogo (Farewell in the Afternoon, 1973, TBS), Muhyō (The Frost, 1977, Fuji TV), Kyōsuikei (1978, NHK), Tenkin wo Meizu (Transfer Ordered, 1980, Fuji TV), Yama wo Hashiru Onna (Woman Running in the Mountains, 1981, NTV), and Raijū (Thunder Beast, 1990, TBS). He died in March 2015 at the age of 88.
