Kurotsuchi Mitsuo

Profile
He was born in Kumamoto Prefecture in 1947. After attending Kumamoto Prefectural Kumamoto High School, he went on to earn a degree from Rikkyo University’s Law and Politics. After graduating, he became an assistant director at the Keisuke Kinoshita Productions, where he worked for about two years before becoming a freelance scriptwriter. In 1978, he made his debut as a television scriptwriter with Comet-san (Comet, 1978–1979, TBS), starring Kumiko Ōba. He received the 7th Kuniko Mukoda Award for Tombo (Dragonfly, 1988, TBS) and Usagi no Kyūjitsu (Rabbits on Holiday, 1988, NHK). In 1989, he made his directorial debut with Orugōru (Music Box), for which he wrote the screenplay. His other major scriptwriting credits in television include Shiawase no Kiiroi Hankachi (The Yellow Handkerchief, 1982, TBS), Oregon kara Ai (From Oregon with Love, 1984, Fuji TV), Oyako Game (The Parent-Child Game, 1986, TBS), Oyako Wars (The Parent-Child War, 1988, TBS), Tabi no Hajimari (The Beginning of the Journey, 1990, NHK), Eiji Futatabi (Eiji Returns, 1997, Fuji TV), Bodyguard (1998, TV Asahi), Keiji Ichirō (Detective Ichiro, 2003, TBS), and Izakaya Moheji (2011–2017, TBS). He died in March 2023 at the age of 76.
