Miyagawa Ichiro

He was born in Gifu Prefecture in 1925. After graduating from the University of Tokyo’s Faculty of Letters, he joined the Planning Department at Shintoho. He served as an assistant director, publicity manager, planning manager, and other roles. He was involved in the Super Giant series as a project developer and scriptwriter. Following his work Kōtetsu no Kyojin (The Steel Giant) in 1957, he wrote a series of screenplays for films such as Onmitsu Shōgun to Kenka Daimyō (The Secret Shogun and the Fighting Warlord), Ningyō Sashichi Torimono-chō: Hadaka-hime to Nazo no Kumaotoko (The Case Notes of Sashichi Ningyo: The Naked Princess and the Mysterious Bear Man), and Jigoku (Hell). After Shintoho went bankrupt in 1961, he signed a contract with Toei. In 1968, he went freelance after establishing a prolific career writing for television and film, with credits including Zenigata Heiji Torimono Hikae (Zenigata Heiji: Detective Records), Tenpō Yūkyōden: Daikan-dokoro Yaburi (Breaking Down the Magistrate), and Kanchō (The Spy). His notable credits for television include Gōjyoppari (Headstrong, 1964, NHK), Zenigata Heiji (1966–1984, Fuji TV), Mito Kōmon (1964–2002, TBS), Kaidan Kasanegafuchi (Ghost Story of Kasane Swamp, 1971, NTV), Edo Kōdan: Hana no Nihonbashi (Edo Tales: The Beauty of Nihonbashi, 1971–1972, Kansai TV), Kaidan (1972, MBS), Umon Torimonochō (The Case Notes of Umon, 1974–1975, NET [now TV Asahi]), and Shingo Torimonochō (The Case Notes of Shingo, 1977–1982, NTV). He died in 2008 at the age of 83.
