- He was born in Niigata Prefecture in 1963. After dropping out of the Chuo University’s Faculty of Law, he moved to Los Angeles, the United States. After returning to Japan, he studied scriptwriting while working odd jobs. In 1988, he won the 2nd Fuji Television Young Scenario Award for Toki niwa Haha no Nai Ko no Yoni (Sometimes Like a Motherless Child) and made his debut as a television series scriptwriter with Kimi ga Uso wo Tsuita (You Lied, 1988, Fuji TV). Subsequently, he wrote scripts for many popular series that are known as “trendy dramas.” His major works include Hyakuikkai-me no Propose (The 101st Marriage Proposal, 1991, Fuji TV), Kōkō Kyōshi (High School Teacher, 1993, TBS), Hitotsu Yane no Shita (Under One Roof, 1993, Fuji TV), Ningen Shikkaku: Tatoeba Boku ga Shindara (No Longer Human: If I Die, For Example, 1994, TBS), Seija no Kōshin (March of the Saints, 1998, TBS), Strawberry on the Shortcake (2001, TBS), Pride (2004, Fuji TV), Onī-chan, Gacha (2015, NTV), and Takane no Hana (She’s out of Our League, 2018, NTV). He also works as a novelist and poet, and he has written lyrics for songs, such as Sexy Zone’s A MY GIRL FRIEND and kotringo’s Dare ka Watashi wo (Someone Please Take Me).
