Since the late 1950s, he has written scripts for films and later for television productions. In addition, he has worked on directing. He wrote or co-wrote scripts for films such as Ojisan Arigato (Thank You, Uncle, 1961), Yama-otoko no Uta (The Mountain Man’s Song, 1962), Yonderuze Ano Kaze ga (The Wind Is Calling, 1965), Birds of Africa (1975), New Dobu-gawa Class (1976), Okāsan no Tsushinbo (Mother’s Report Card, 1980), and Kojika Monogatari (The Story of a Baby Deer, 1991). He also served as director of the film Warera Ningen Kazoku (We Are the Human Family, 1966). In addition, his scriptwriting credits for television include Ai no Shirabe (Investigation of Love, 1960, TBS), Shichinin no Keiji (The Seven Detectives, 1961–1969, TBS), Zenigata Heiji (1966-1984, Fuji TV), Warera Bengo-shi (We Are Lawyers, 1968, NTV), Yūwaku (Temptation, 1970, Tokyo Channel 12 [now TV Tokyo]), Chūgakusei Nikki (Diary of Junior High School Students, 1972–2012, NHK), Enka-Renka Satsujin-fu (A Musical Score of Enchanting Love Song for Murder, 1988, NTV), and Oregon Nikki ‘89 (Oregon Diary ‘89, 1989, Fuji TV). He served as a director for the television series Sanbiki no Samurai (The Three Outlaw Samurai, 1963–1969, Fuji TV).
