Nakae Yoshio

He was born in Hokkaido in 1910. His younger brother was the comedy actor Shunji Sayama (1918–1984). After graduating from elementary school under the old system, he held a variety of jobs before joining the literary department of the Moulin Rouge Shinjuku-za (Shinjuku, Tokyo) in 1940. During the same period, he also worked on radio productions for NHK; from then on, he continued to write plays for Moulin Rouge while also writing scripts for film, radio, and television. He wrote the radio series Mrs. Chakkari and Mrs. Ukkari (1951–1964, Radio Tokyo [now TBS Radio]), which became a huge hit. It was adapted into a film and a television series. His television credits include Ori no Naka no Jinrui (Humanity in a Cage, 1953, NHK), Sannin Yado (Three Guest Lodging ,1956, NTV), Wataru Seken wa Oni Bakari (The World is Full of Demons, 1958, NHK), Umi no Fue (The Whistle of the Sea, 1958, CBC), Hokkai no Hitobito (People of the North Country, 1960, NET [now TV Asahi]). He also provided the original story and script for Doburoku no Tatsu (1960, Radio Tokyo [now TBS]). In addition to Mt. Fuji as Seen from Kai (1965, TBS), he also adapted many other works. He died in January 1986 at the age of 75.
