- He was born in Miyagi Prefecture in 1923. In 1958, he won the Grand Prize for his work Sensō (The War) at a competition held by the Writers Association of Japan. Following its broadcast, the drama Hanzai Chitai wo Sagase (Search for the Crime Zone, 1958, NTV) was made into a film and released in theaters by Shintoho the following month. Over the course of 1959, he wrote a series of films for Nikkatsu. In 1959, he met director Hideo Gosha through the television movie Keiji (The Detective, 1959, Fuji TV); thereafter, he collaborated frequently as a scriptwriter on Gosha’s television movies. The drama Toppu-ya (The Scoop Hunter, 1960–1961, Fuji TV), an adaptation of Kazuo Shimada’s original work, propelled Tetsurō Tamba to stardom. Sanbiki no Samurai (The Three Outlaw Samurai, 1963–1969, Fuji TV) is one of his most famous works. From the 1960s to the 1970s, he was a highly sought-after scriptwriter, maintaining a busy schedule of writing scripts for television, films, and animation for Mushi Production, as well as for a special effects series for Tsuburaya Productions and other major studios. In the 1980s, he wrote the scripts for Nikkatsu Roman Porno films based on novels by Giichi Fujimoto and Akiyuki Nosaka. He died in August 1991 at the age of 67.
