Miki Ayuro
- Profile
- He was born in 1924. After attending the former Gyosei Junior High School, he entered the Higher School of Merchant Marine (now Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology). He later dropped out to work as an interpreter for the U.S. military. His elder brother was Torirō Miki (he died in 1994), who left a significant mark as a commercial song composer and broadcast writer. He became a broadcast and staff writer, like his elder brother, and he served as a key member of the writing staff for the pioneering television music variety program Mitsuko no Mado (Mitsuko’s Window, 1958, NTV). At the same time, he gained popularity as a host on numerous television programs, including Star Sen’ichiya (Stars on Thousand and One Nights, Fuji TV, 1959–1966), and The Japan Record Awards (TBS, 1965–1968). He was a jazz critic, translator, essayist, and scriptwriter for films and television and was active both in front of and behind the scenes of the broadcasting industry. His television scripts include Bangaku no Isshō (The Life of Bangaku, 1958, Radio Tokyo [now TBS]) and Crazy Cats’ Otona no Manga (Comics for Adults, 1959–1964, Fuji TV). He died in 1997 at the age of 72.
