He was born on February 8, 1933, in Omuta City, Fukuoka Prefecture. After graduating from Kumamoto University, he worked as a writer under contract with NHK before becoming a freelance broadcast writer. JA750-ki Yukue Fumei (Flight JA750 is Missing) won the Broadcast Drama Award of Japan Newspaper Publishers & Editors Association. It was later made into a film in 1959 that was adapted by Kin’ya Naoi, directed by Tokujirō Yamazaki, and produced by Nikkatsu. His documentary novel Gekkō no Natsu (Moonlight Summer) was also made into a film in 1993. For this production, he developed the project and authored both the original story and the screenplay. The film was produced by Shigoto and distributed by Nippon Herald Films. He wrote numerous novels, including the mystery novel Shasatsu (Shoot to Kill), published in 1986. Working extensively in the fields of novels, film, radio, and television, he became renowned as a writer of socially engaging dramas and news documentaries. The radio drama Hiroshima no Kuroi Jūjika (The Black Cross of Hiroshima, 2000, RCC Broadcasting) won the Grand Prize at the National Arts Festival. His television scripts include Māsa (Martha, 1961, KBC), Ikuseiso (Many Months and Years, 1964, KBC), Shimakko no Uta (Song of Island Children, 1966, ABC), Shichinin no Keiji (The Seven Detectives, 1961–1969, TBS), and Uchū Hikōshi Ellison Onizuka to Haha (Astronaut Ellison Onizuka and His Mother, 1989, TV Tokyo).
