- He was born in Kanda, Tokyo, in 1921. After graduating from Tokyo Imperial University, he joined Shintoho and worked as an assistant director. In 1950, his proposal was adopted by director Kōji Shima and made into the film Kimi to Iku Amerika (America Voyage With You). In 1953, he wrote his first screenplay for Jūdai no Seiten (Teenage Sex Guide). The film was produced and distributed by Daiei, directed by Kōji Shima, and starred Ayako Wakao. In 1955, three years after television broadcasting began, he made his debut as a television director with the drama Himana-shi Tobidasu (Himana-shi Jumps Out), broadcast by Radio Tokyo (now TBS). He also made his directorial debut in 1957 with the film Kakubō to Joshi-dai Sannin-Musume (The Mortarboard and the Three College Girls), a Shintoho production, starring Tadao Takashima. After Shintoho went bankrupt in August 1961, he transitioned to directing the live-action special effects TV series National Kid (1960–1961), produced by Toei for NET (now TV Asahi). Until his retirement from the industry in 1968, he wrote and directed numerous television programs, including Shichinin no Keiji (Seven Detectives, 1961–1969, TBS). He later focused on his work as an author and essayist while also teaching at Tama Art University. He died in June 1994 at the age of 73 while still working at the university.
