Overview
It is a famous socio-political TV series set in a law firm. Lawyers with unique personal traits played by talented actors successfully tackle a variety of cases. Each episode revolves around a different case that involves serious social issues. For example, Episode 16: “1314TH,” portrays a woman’s tragic struggle against tuberculosis in which she desperately tries to earn money—she is even called a miser—to get a new drug for the disease. Episode 20: “Hatsuga,” revolves around a lawyer who learns the dark side of the political world to defend a person who has been accused of election fraud. Episode 54: “Kono Chisana Negai,” sheds light upon the reality of increasingly serious housing problems and rental contracts through an arson case at an apartment. The final episode (Episode 200): “Kempo Dai 25 Jyo” revolves around a trial of a small-scale farmer in Hokkaido and reflects on the fundamental human rights guaranteed by the Constitution of Japan and the realities surrounding them. It captured a lot of attention from viewers, leading to increased demands for continuation of the series. An association was established to advocate for the continuation of the Hanketsu series, garnering support from Osamu Tezuka, Sampei Shirato, Kazuo Hirotsu, Satsuo Yamamoto, Shiko Munakata, Shoichi Ozawa, Haruko Sugimura, Mitsuko Mori, and other celebrities.
