- Overview
- This popular series produced by Fukuko Ishii was a forerunner of Arigato written by Yumie Hiraiwa who also wrote the script for Kimottama Kasan, as well as Wataru Seken wa Oni Bakari written by Sugako Hashida. Isako Taisho lost her husband shortly after the war. Since then, she has been running her soba noodle restaurant, Taisho-an, all by herself, earning the nickname, “Kimottama Kasan.” Although she can be a bit old fashioned and stubborn, her warm-hearted and sentimental personality wins her the admiration of her employees. Isako’s oldest son, Kazu, is an office worker. He marries Aya Kiyota, a magazine editor, and they have a daughter named Hisako. Isako’s eldest daughter, Mimiko, goes to a nursing college. The Taishos, along with the Kiyotas and the employees of Taisho-an, face a variety of problems and troubles, but Isako solves them with her cheerful, positive attitude... The well-rounded Masako Kyozuka played a reliable but somewhat careless mother. The series was a great hit, achieving an audience rating of around 30% every episode. In total the series ran for 117 episodes until the third season ended in 1972.
