- Overview
- This romantic comedy where a young teacher and a high school student live school life hiding that they are married is based on a shojo manga by Miyoko Motomura set in an American high school. The scriptwriter, Mamoru Sasaki, changed the story’s setting to Japan and gave it a pop feel so that it could air from 7 p.m. when children may be watching TV. Asuka Shimura is an 18-year-old in her third year of high school. She marries her fiancée, Tetsuya Takagi, in her hometown and transfers to the private school where Tetsuya teaches. The principal gives them strict instructions to keep their relationship a secret. If people find out, Tetsuya will be immediately fired and Asuka will be expelled. Tetsuya, being publicly single a handsome man, constantly gets on by his female co-workers and female students. Asuka also becomes popular among male students and her homeroom teacher. Moreover, a woman living next door—who thinks Tetsuya and Asuka are siblings—keeps presenting Tetsuya with marriage offers. Hence, the two get caught up in trouble both at school and at home. Thanks to the great dramatic performance by Yuki Okazaki and Tetsuo Ishidate, the series achieved a peak audience rating of 33.1%. The series was originally scheduled to air for six months, but this was extended to a year.
