- This first-ever Japanese one-hour TV series aired for 801 episodes and became a long-standing series with a high audience rating. It is a detective series inspired by the Initial Investigation Team formed under the First Criminal Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Bureau of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department in April 1959 to ensure appropriate initial investigation of crimes that were becoming increasingly violent at the time. The series covers the investigation activities of detectives, from occurrence of a case to the criminal’s arrest. Although most of the episodes are serious in tone, the series includes a variety of other elements, such as a jidaigeki (period drama)-style episode and a comical episode where the detectives get caught up in trouble. Initially, the series starred the Tateishi Team led by Chief Detective Tateishi. Other teams, including the Fujishima Team, Mifune Team, Takakura Team, Yazaki Team, and Hidaka Team, later joined the series too. Episode 623: “Aru Yoru no Dekigoto,” is about a bus hijacking. Two students get drunk on a bus and hijack it, and harass the other passengers. One of those passengers is a detective who is secretly following a woman who is going to meet with a murderer. The detective conceals his identity and waits for the opportune moment to fight back... The episode features constant tension and intense action that represents the series.
