- Youth drama series presenting a striking accusation against the state
- Overview
- It is a youth drama series that aired from 1974 to 1975 for 26 episodes. It features two youths, Osamu Kogure (played by Kenichi Hagiwara) and Ryo Inui (played by Yutaka Mizutani), who work as a duo as assistants to a detective. The initial part of the series was groundbreaking for the time with its frequent use of nudity. Film directors, Kinji Fukasaku, Tatsumi Kamishiro, and Hideo Onchi, were involved in the series’ direction, which also helped it gain traction. Memorable scenes include those where Kenichi Hagiwara, with a newspaper hanging from his neck, digs into food such as tomatoes, corned beef, fish sausages, and other food, and drinks milk, as well as where Ryo repeatedly calls Osamu Aniki (big brother). Episode 4: “Minatomachi ni Otokonamida no Burusu wo” was written by Yasuko Ohno and directed by Tatsumi Kumashiro. Osamu is sent to a small port town to find out who is illegally selling frozen shrimps imported from Southeast Asia, but there he is suddenly assaulted by the yakuza crime syndicate. He barely manages to escape but is later attacked again by someone. He is saved by a man named Kaji at a bar in the outskirts of town. Osamu ends up helping out in the nude studio run by Kaji. The case is connected with an incident that occurred in New Guinea during the World War II, leading to a striking accusation against the state.
