Overview
It is a sequel series to the popular Necchu Jidai series that ran from October 1978 to March 1981. It revolves around Kodai Kitano (played by Yutaka Mizutani), an elementary school teacher at Wakabadai Elementary School who goes all out to deal with various issues that occur in the school. The series ran for 38 episodes in Saturday Grand Theater, with an average audience rating of 27.8%. Yutaka Mizutani’s unique way of delivering lines became a popular feature. Later, two-hour standalone TV dramas were created in spring 1987, autumn 1988, and autumn 1989, respectively. In addition, a remake drama special was broadcast in 2011. It features one of Kitano’s former students and his struggles as a teacher. In the final episode of the previous series, Kodai Kitano returned to Hokkaido. In the sequel series, however, he decides to return to Wakabadai Elementary School after being invited by the principal, Amagi, who came to Sapporo for a workshop. The series features a variety of new developments centered around the interaction between Kitano—who has grown since the previous series—and young schoolchildren, as well as those children who regularly appeared in the previous series and who are now in fifth grade. In Episode 3: “Hayakumo Kyofu no Tsushinbo,” Kitano faces the challenge of preparing school reports shortly after taking up his post. While being worried about the concerns of those around him, Kitano somehow manages to overcome the challenge after a lot of distress.
