Overview
It is one of the most famous TV series in television history, developed and written by So Kuramoto, and starring Kunie Tanaka. The TV series aired for 24 episodes on the Friday Theater slot, after which a series of eight drama specials was broadcast between 1983 and 2002. Kitano Kuni Kara is set in Furano City, Hokkaido. Over the course of 21 years, it portrays the life and growth of Goro Kuroita and his two children, Jun and Hotaru, in the magnificent natural landscape. As it was a long-standing show, the viewers watched the two young children, Jun (Hidetaka Yoshioka) and Hotaru (Tomoko Nakajima), grow over the years. Jun’s unique way of speaking, as well as the theme song by Masashi Sada, garnered popularity. Awarded in the 14th TV Awards. Won the 19th Galaxy Award. After his wife Reiko leaves him, Goro returns to his hometown, Furano, with his young children, Jun and Hotaru. Their house is in ruins, with neither electricity nor running water. Unable to adapt to this environment, Jun writes a letter to Reiko saying that he wants to go back to Tokyo. Meanwhile, Hotaru, who likes her father, helps out with the housework and bravely carries on with life while suppressing the loneliness of being separated from her mother. Then, Reiko’s younger sister Yukiko pays them a visit. Jun goes to Tokyo with Yukiko and begins living with Reiko...
