- Overview
- Kaoru Numata runs a small loan shark business called Paradise Loans. Even though he is a master at collecting debts, his business is not doing so well. He leads a meager life with his wife Yoshie. Numata gets a request from Hideki Kokubun, a leading member of the Seiryukai yakuza crime syndicate and the shadow owner of a major loan shark company, to collect 20 million yen in compensation from Tsuneko Yura and Ichitaro Takemura, who have damaged his reputation. Tsuneko was under the protection of Kokubun, but she has run away with an itinerant actor Ichitaro. Numata heads to Shima Onsen, the place where they have run away to, and locates Tsuneko and Ichitaro. But once Numata finds out that Tsuneko is the daughter of Tsukinojo Hanamura, a woman to whom he owes his life, Numata decides to switch sides and save the couple. However, Numata is framed: he is made a debt guarantor for the 20 million yen. In order to survive, Numata and the others form a traveling theater company. Numata gradually changes in the world of traveling theater companies, where moral obligations and human emotions live on generation to generation... One feature is the series of traveling theater company productions performed on screen, such as Ippongatana Dohyoiri and Meigetsu Akagiyama. Won the 1st Mukoda Kuniko Award, and awarded in the TV Awards and Galaxy Awards.
