- Overview
- It is a TV series that ran in three seasons on the Drama Ningen Moyo slot. Based on the author’s experiences, the series approaches the history of Japan from the Taisho to Showa era from the perspective of a merchant family who runs a store along Shikoku’s pilgrimage route. Chapter 1: The year is 1923. Shizuko, who has run away from home, marries Shoji, the second son of a family who runs a store called Tomiya, after experiencing the Great Kanto Earthquake. One day, a female pilgrim disappears leaving her daughter behind. Shizuko names the girl Junko and raises her. Chapter 2: Shizuko is pregnant, but she is taken hostage by a sekkyo goto (robber who preaches victims) that brakes into Tomiya, and as a result, delivers her child prematurely. The child, named Shinichi, does not give out his first cry and is weak. Shizuko is concerned about her son’s growth. Chapter 3: Shizuko’s son Shinichi enjoys a free childhood. Meanwhile, Santoka Taneda comes to a haiku poet gathering at Tomiya. And in Taishoza, the town’s amusement facility, Hironori Mizuno, a former navy captain opposed to the war, is giving a speech, but he is slashed at by a ruffian.
