- It is a drama special that revolves around the growth of a boy named Akira who is taken care of by his aunt and uncle in Oregon, US after his parents’ death. Similarly to Kita no Kuni Kara, a standalone drama special aired every year after conclusion of the TV series. FROM OREGON WITH LOVE ‘88: Homestay Summer was the fourth drama special aired as a summer holiday special. It depicts culture gaps and friendship through Akira’s former classmates who visit the US from Japan. As this was the fifth year of shooting in Oregon for Setsu Ishiwa who plays Akira, his English had improved so much that even the locals were surprised. Four years have passed since Akira joined the family of Eizo Miyauchi who runs a farm in Oregon. One day, his friends Takeshi and Kengo come to see him from Japan during the summer break. The two stay with a nearby farmer’s family and an elderly couple, respectively. The three are reunited for the first time in four years. At first, Takeshi and Kengo are impressed by Oregon’s magnificent nature, but they gradually get bewildered by the huge differences in lifestyle and culture.
