Nagasaka Shukei

Profile
He was born in Aichi Prefecture in 1941. Inspired by the film Yajū Shisubeshi (The Beast to Die), which he saw while attending Toyohashi Technical High School, he decided to pursue a filmmaking career. After graduating from high school, he worked at a plastics factory in Tokyo before joining Toho Studios, where he worked as an art assistant. He later joined the Planning Division in the Television Department. His work Mono wo Iu Inu (The Talking Dog), which won the Honorable Mention in an NHK script competition in 1966, was dramatized for television in 1968. This led him to become an independent scriptwriter. His screenwriting credits for television include Kozure Ōkami (Lone Wolf and Cub) (1973-1976, NTV) and Tokusō Saizensen (Special Investigation Frontline, 1977–1987, TV Asahi), and his credits in film include Shōsetsu Yoshida Ggakkō (Novel Yoshida School, 1983) and Lost Crime (2010). He was also a mystery writer, winning the Edogawa Rampo Prize for his novel Asakusa Enoken Ichiza no Arashi (The Storm of the Asakusa Enoken Troupe). His other notable television dramas include Keiji-kun (Young Detective, 1971–1976, TBS), Jinzō Ningen Kikaidā (Android Kikaider, 1972–1973, NET [now TV Asahi]), Nippon Chinbotsu (Japan Sinks, 1974, TBS), Futari no Musashi (The Two Musashis, 1981, Fuji TV), and Inugami-ke no Ichizoku (The Inugami Clan, starring Kiichi Nakai, 1990, TV Asahi).
