- He was born in Tokyo in 1922. He graduated from Nihon University’s College of Art in 1943. As a student draftee, he served in the Navy at the end of the war. In 1949, he founded the Dokuritsu Gekijō theater, and after working at the Tokyo Seinen Gekijō theater, he joined Torirō Miki’s Jodan Kōbō (Comedy Workshop), where he wrote broadcast scripts. He instantly became a popular writer after writing comedy sketches for the NHK Radio program Nichiyō Gorakuban (Sunday Entertainment Edition). In 1954, he participated in the founding of the Theater Echo troupe, where he focused on staging comedies as a director and a scriptwriter. He participated as a member of the writing staff for the pioneering television music variety program Mitsuko no Mado (Mitsuko’s Window, 1958, NTV). This marked the emergence of the position of staff writer in the industry. He was a key creator of many epoch-making programs that left a mark in the history of television, including Yume de Aimashō (See You in My Dreams, 1961–1966, NHK), Crazy Cats’ Otona no Manga (Comics for Adults, 1959–1964, Fuji TV), 11 PM (1965–1990, NTV, Yomiuri TV), and Kyosen & Maetake’s Gebageba 90 Minutes (1969–1971, NTV). He died in 1999 at the age of 77.
