- He was born in Tokyo in 1929. Alongside his numerous television scripts, he was also a prolific novelist who left behind a significant body of literature. In 1945, he dropped out of Fukushima Prefectural Kawamata Technical School. In 1956, a script he submitted to a contest in the magazine Eiga no Tomo won an award, marking his debut as a television scriptwriter. In 1974, he established himself as a writer of mysteries with the publication of his novel Yūkai 197X (Kidnapping 197X). He left behind an extensive body of work, having energetically authored novels, as well as original stories, scripts, and adaptations for film and television. His television scripts include Shōnen Kōro (Boy’s Route, 1958–1959, Radio Tokyo [now TBS]), Getsuyōubi no Otoko (The Man on Monday, 1961–1964, TBS), Hanketsu (The Judgment, 1962–1966, NET [now TV Asahi]), and Shichinin no Keiji (The Seven Detectives, 1961–1969, TBS). He also wrote for Kemuri no Ōsama (The King of Smoke, 1962, TBS), which won the Education Minister’s Award at the Art Festival. He was a prolific writer across various formats, ranging from period dramas to the adaptation of literary works. He was also highly regarded for his wide range of literary work, spanning disaster fiction, legendary mysteries, mountain suspense, and historical novels. He died in 1993 at the age of 63.
