- He was born in 1927. The film Haha-bue Ko-bue (Mother’s Whistle and Child’s Whistle, 1955, Daiei) was co-written with Tetsutarō Murano and adapted by Kazuo Funahashi, and the film Karakkaze Yarō (Afraid to Die, 1960, Daiei), starring the literary giant Yukio Mishima as an actor, was co-written with Ryūzō Kikushima. His television scripts include Wakaki Oka no Ue (Over the Young Hill, 1960, NTV), Aoi Bōshi no Monogatari (The Story of the Blue Hat, 1962, TBS), Jidanya (The Fixer, 1964, Kansai TV), The Guard Man (1965–1971, TBS), Hijō no License (Ruthless License, 1973–1980, NET [now TV Asahi]), and Aiken Chico (The Story of My Dog Chico, 1980, Yomiuri TV). In period dramas, he was a prominent member of the scriptwriting teams for many iconic series, including Onihei Hankachō (Onihei’s Detective Records, 1969–1972, NET [now TV Asahi]) and TBS’s National Gekijō series, such as Mito Kōmon, Ōoka Echizen, and Edo wo Kiru. His adaptations include Aoi Bōshi no Monogatari (The Story of the Blue Hat, based on the original work by Tsuchiya Takao, 1962, TBS) and Shinjurō (based on the original work by Seishi Yokomizo, 1978, MBS). He died in 2002 at the age of 74.
