- He was born in Osaka in 1924. In his later years, he changed the kanji for his given name to 登枝緒. He was a comedy and manzai writer whose work is cited as the very root of Osaka comedy. After serving in the Greater East Asia War and being demobilized in 1947, he became an exclusive writer for Asahi Television Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) in 1958. There, he wrote for the radio drama The Sukatan Shain (The Bungling Employees), starring Daimaru and Racket Nakata. In 1959, he made his television debut as a scriptwriter with Dai-rake Nitōhei (Private Dairake). He then went on to write scripts for numerous comedy programs and manzai acts, leaving a significant mark on the history of Japanese comedy. He was also a resident playwright for the Shochiku Shinkigeki theater company during the era of Kanbi Fujiyama. Furthermore, he became a television personality in his own right in his later years, appearing as a regular on many programs. His credits include Kashimashi Hour: Seishun Otenba Nikki (Kashimashi Hour: Diary of a Tomboy, 1959, Osaka TV), Achako no Dokkoi Goyōda (Achako’s ‘Gotcha!, 1961, ABC), Sucharaka Shain (The Slacker Employee, 1961–1967, ABC), and Tenamon’ya Sandogasa (1962–1968, ABC). His dislike of Tokyo was well known. He died in March 1994 at the age of 69.
