Yagi Shuichiro

- He was born in Kanagawa in 1928. He dropped out of the now defunct Yamagata High School. In 1955, he made his debut as a playwright with Sannin no Tōzoku (The Three Thieves), which was staged by the Bungakuza theater company. Following this, he authored numerous shingeki plays and commercial theater plays, winning a wide array of awards. He also wrote musical scripts and was active as a stage director. In addition, he worked on radio dramas and was one of the first playwrights to transition into writing television scripts. He was active from the beginning of operations in various networks; his credits include Koko ni Hito Ari (Here Stands a Man, 1957–1961, NHK), Odoru Sōretsu (Dancing Funeral Procession, original story by Yasushi Inoue, 1958, Radio Tokyo [now TBS]), Renai Sahō (Love Etiquette, original story by Junnosuke Yoshiyuki, 1959, NTV), Bōsatsu no Karte (Murder Chart, original story by Yorichika Arima, 1959, Radio Tokyo [now TBS]), Saigo no Chi (The Last Blood, 1960, NET [now TV Asahi]), and Tokyo Shinsengumi (1960, Fuji TV). He continued writing late into his career, concluding with Kurotokage (Black Lizard, TBS) in 1993. He won the Encouragement Prize at the Art Festival for the drama Cartello Carlos Nihon e Tobu (Cartello Carlos Flew to Japan, 1963, TBS). He died in 2004 at the age of 75.
