- He was born in Shizuoka Prefecture in 1912. After graduating from Hamamatsu Technical School (now Hamamatsu Technical High School), he moved to Tokyo. Following graduation from the Oriental Photography School, he joined Shochiku Kinema Kamata Studio. He then moved to Shochiku Ofuna Studio and trained under director Yasujirō Shimazu. He was called to serve at the start of the war, but due to failing health, he was discharged and returned to the film industry. In 1943, he released his debut directorial work, Hana Saku Minato (Port of Flowers). In 1951, he released Carmen Kokyō ni Kaeru (Carmen Comes Home), Japan’s first color film. During his over 40-year career as a director, he released 49 films, including Nijū-shi no Hitomi (Twenty-Four Eyes), Onna no Sono (The Garden of Women), and Yorokobi mo Kanashimi mo Ikutoshitsuki (Times of Joy and Sorrow). He wrote the screenplays for most of his directorial works. After leaving Shochiku, he founded Keisuke Kinoshita Productions and ventured into television. At TBS, he worked on series such as Kinoshita Keisuke Hour and Kinoshita Keisuke: Ningen no Uta (Human Song). He also wrote numerous television scripts, including Sannin no Koto (The Three Koto Players, 1964, TBS), Akkerakan (1968, TBS), Oyaji Daiko (The Old Man’s Drum, 1968, TBS) and Oyaji Sanmyaku (The Old Man’s Mountain Range, 1972, TBS). He died in December 1998 at the age of 86.
