Ogawa Ei

He was born in 1930. He graduated from Chuo University’s Faculty of Law. He is also known as Akira Eri. He studied under Ichirō Ikeda and made his debut as a film screenwriter. He supported the golden age of Nikkatsu films in the 1960s, writing screenplays mainly for action films, such as Guitar wo Motta Wataridori (The Rambling Guitarist), starring Akira Kobayashi. In the 1970s, he shifted his focus to writing scripts for television. For the detective series Taiyōni Hoero! (Roar at the Sun!), starring Yujirō Ishihara, he not only wrote the scripts but also supervised and revised them for over a decade, from the start to the end of the program. In addition, he prolifically created works in a wide range of genres, from action and suspense to period dramas and puppet theater. Furthermore, in the late 1960s, he founded the film production company Jack Productions with the film director Takashi Tsuboshima, the scriptwriter and producer Yasuo Tanami, and the film director Katsuki Iwauchi, and he expanded his career into production. He also led Ei-juku, a private academy for aspiring screenwriters, which has produced numerous successful graduates. He died in 1994 at the age of 64.
