Overview
Based on the non-fiction work Aru Yuki no Kiroku: Kyoki no Shita no Shuzai Noto. In response to the second conflict raging between organized crime syndicates in and around Hiroshima at the time, the Chugoku Shimbun Company published a compilation of news articles written between 1963 to 1965 as part of their Violence Elimination Campaign. The work received the 13th Kikuchi Kan Prize in 1965. Aru Yuki no Kiroku is a TV drama adaptation of the work, and it ran for 34 episodes. Set in a newspaper publishing company, the series depicts the journalists from veterans to rookies, who struggle to eliminate the breeding ground for violence. This semi-documentary drama was shot in Hiroshima, and local theater company members and citizens participated in the shooting. Featuring Yusuke Takida, who had gained popularity in NHK’s Jiken Kisha, as well as Tomoo Nagai and Hideo Takamatsu, and directed by Satsuo Yamamoto, who was known as a master of socio-political drama, the series garnered a lot of attention and received nationwide acclaim. Since the incidents on which the series was based were fresh in memory, it gave a realistic impression on viewers. Episode 1: “Dare no Tame no Machi” won the 21st ACA National Arts Festival Encouragement Award.
