- Overview
- Ryutaro Uchiyama, the DJ of a late night radio show, comes up with a plan to regain the show’s popularity together with the woman director Ozeki. Their plan is to help listeners who reach out to them about love-related matters. The show garners attention by interviewing and broadcasting the experience of Kikuo Fujita, a mechanic at Chofu Airport. However, Fujita’s story turns out to be a made-up story, and the woman he said he loved, Taeko, vanishes. Naturally, the radio station receives many complaints, and Uchiyama and Ozeki are forced to step down. This drama, or Taichi Yamada, critiques an aspect of mass media by depicting in detail how staff are under pressure to improve program ratings and how the media exerts influence on Fujita and Taeko. In the end, however, Yamada makes Taeko say: “You want a connection, you want a friend,” quietly conveying the enduring value of radio.
