- Overview
- It is a TV series that presents a scathing satire of what is going on behind the scenes in the television industry and garnered a lot of attention among industry members. It ran for 26 episodes and was developed by So Kuramoto. The Theater Company Kamome-za had 300 members, but now only six are left because the rest quit. The series portrays how the remaining six members desperately try to survive in the entertainment industry. It is a posthumous work of Daisuke Kato. The final episode features a famous scene where a broadcast writer yells the following scathing words at the camera: “You worked for TV but didn’t love it with your heart! You saw TV merely as a tool to make money! You have absolutely no right to feel nostalgia for TV. Only those who have loved and fought for TV are entitled for that. And also the viewers and those who enjoyed it.” This raises an issue that applies to the television industry even today. Among the 26 episodes, Episode 9: “Kansoki” is renowned as a masterpiece. It is about a division manager named Shimizu (played by Shizuo Chujo), who cheats in a golf competition to win the prize of an electric drying machine. The episode features numerous famous scenes, such as where Chujo and Kato have a conversation while drinking in a bar. The TV series is totally relevant even today.
