- Overview
- It is the 19th installment of Taiga drama. This domestic drama set in the feudal era tells stories from the perspective of Nene, the wife of Kinoshita Tokichiro, a retainer in the service of Oda Nobunaga. Nene cheerfully encourages her husband Kinoshita Tokichiro, who has lacked military fortune and been slow in rising through the ranks. Although they get along well, their biggest concern is not being blessed by children. But under Oda Nobunaga, Tokichiro steadily rises through the ranks. As her husband’s status rises from retainer to lord of castle, Nene is bewildered by the rapid change in her position. When he was leader of retainers, Tokichiro used to naively dream of succeeding in life. However, after Nobunaga’s death, his personality suddenly changes into that of the ruthless ruler Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Hideyoshi takes Yodo as his concubine. She is the daughter of Nobunaga’s younger sister Oichi, whom Hideyoshi has admired for many years. Yodo produces a long-awaited child. Hideyoshi invades Korea in spite of his mother’s strong opposition. After his death, Nene leaves Osaka Castle for a secluded life in Kyoto. She starts to think that the Toyotomi family will not be able to rule the whole of Japan. She therefore places her earnest wish for a peaceful world in the hands of the magnate Tokugawa Ieyasu. Eventually, she becomes a nun at Kodai-ji Temple, assuming the name Kodai-in. She watches as Osaka Castle is burned down in the siege of Osaka (summer campaign).
