- Overview
- One evening, when Shuichi Osawa and his wife Asako come back to their apartment in a housing complex in Tokyo, they hear something from their son Toru’s room. They open the door to find Toru and Nodoka, the oldest daughter of the Moris, holding each other in their arms. Seeing Toru’s parents in confusion, Nodoka tells them she has shown Toru her naked body to thank him for helping with her homework. This causes a lot of trouble between the Osawas and Moris. Several days later, Toru, Yusuke Mori, and Ryota Sanokura hear a woman’s seductive voice from a car parked on the street. They peek in the car to find Ryota’s father, Kazuhiko! The adults are troubled by the many sexuality-related incidents caused by junior high school students who are fascinated by sex... The series garnered great popularity as a “cheerful sex education drama.” Its average audience rating exceeded 20%, and the final episode achieved a peak audience rating of 26.3% (Kanto region). Every episode includes a fight scene between professional wrestlers who have nothing to do with the main story. These refreshing scenes seem to serve as a device to neutralize the “harmful” content. The series involved a lot of blue humor as well as scenes featuring the actors wearing only underwear or half naked, which led to critical comments from parents and parent‐teacher associations. Back then in 1985, sex education was not yet established in the Japanese junior and senior high school curriculum. The series raised awareness of the need for sex education among the public and the education sector. The series is remembered as one in which Miho Nakayama shot to stardom by playing a delinquent young girl fascinated by sex. It ran in three seasons up to 1987.
