Overview
This TV series shot in Oregon, USA is known as an American version of Kita no Kuni Kara, which was also created by Fuji TV. The magnificent natural landscape and the life of a family living there garnered a lot of attention. Masashi Sada, who sang the theme song for Kita no Kuni Kara, also sang the theme song for this series as well. Multiple drama specials were broadcast after the TV series (13 episodes) ended. Although the TV series’ story is extended to the drama special FROM OREGON WITH LOVE ‘88: Homestay Summer, all subsequent drama specials are standalone stories. Nine-year-old Akira loses both his parents. It is decided that his aunt and her husband living in Oregon are going to look after him, and his older sister will remain in a Japanese junior high school to continue her swimming training, so Akira sets off to Oregon alone. Akira’s aunt and uncle are working very hard to recover a field that was taken from them as collateral for a loan. Seeing them work so hard, Akira actively helps out in the farm. In FROM OREGON WITH LOVE ‘86, Akira witnesses a type of bullying in America that is different from bullying in Japan and consequently contemplates what true friendship means.
