- Overview
- Based on Kanda Tsuruhashi Sushi Banashi, an essay written by the founder of the Kanda Tsuruhashi sushi restaurant about his days as an apprentice. The series revolves around Yasuo Hirayama, a youth who becomes an apprentice at a sushi restaurant called Tatsumizushi in Yanagibashi, Tokyo in late 1950, and how he grows as a sushi chef under the strict guidance of his master Shinsaku Hyodo, a stubborn man of the old school. In the final episode, Yasuo is at last allowed to stand before the customers and prepare sushi rolls. The following year, a sequel was broadcast revolving around Hyodo’s romantic affairs and Yasuo’s leaving to set up his own business.
