Overview
Based on Kanda Tsuruhashi Sushi Banashi, an essay written by the founder of the Kanda Tsuruhashi sushi restaurant about his days as an apprentice. The series revolves around Yasuo Hirayama, a youth who becomes an apprentice at a sushi restaurant called Tatsumizushi in Yanagibashi, Tokyo in late 1950, and how he grows as a sushi chef under the strict guidance of his master Shinsaku Hyodo, a stubborn man of the old school. In the final episode, Yasuo is at last allowed to stand before the customers and prepare sushi rolls. The following year, a sequel was broadcast revolving around Hyodo’s romantic affairs and Yasuo’s leaving to set up his own business.
