Kanekonaruto
- Profile
- He was born in Nagasaki Prefecture in 1949. After graduating from Sasebo Minami High School, he relocated to Tokyo with the aim of becoming a film director. While working in the corporate sector, he studied at Scenario Kenkyūjo (Screenwriting Institute). He studied under Sō Kuramoto. His journey into screenwriting began when he sought an apprenticeship with the director Mikio Naruse, who told him, “If you want to become a director, you should first study scriptwriting.” In 1972, he made his debut as a scriptwriter with Ohayō (Good Morning); however, he was forced to work odd jobs to support himself. While working as a bartender and as a driver for Kaoru Yachigusa, he wrote screenplays for Nikkatsu Roman Porno films and other projects. In 1974, his plot was selected in the contest for Taiyō ni Hoero! (Roar at the Sun!). He had his breakthrough writing scripts for the series Zenryaku Ofukuro-sama (Dear Mother) and Daitokai (The Big City), quickly establishing himself as a prominent talent. Since then, he has written over 400 works; notably, he established the standard for high-quality family dramas through the Kuniko Mukōda Shinshun (New Year) series. In 1979, he received the Hoso Bunka Foundation (HBF) Prize (drama category) for Shinitagaru Ko (Children Who Want to Die), which depicted the issue of suicide among junior high school students. Later, in 1997, he was honored with the Kuniko Mukoda Award for Uo-gokoro Areba Yome-gokoro and Owari no Nai Dōwa (Endless Fairy Tale).
